Thanks for the photos very nice I got a f/2.8 great lens but for wildlife is too heavy, so been reading the reviews and I will go for the f/5.6

john the 70-200 2.8 is 3.2 lbs or 1.45 kgs
the 400 mm lens is 5 lbs or 2.2 kgs.
Canon has also introduced a 100-400 lens with a built in 2X teleconvertor

Thanks for sharing your lovely photos. I like a lot, I looked at the 100
400 lens but did like the lens push pull and the rotating front end, remember having a 75-300 with a polariser filter on the end continously adjusting it
It for the desired effect, shame I am selling the 400f/2.8 , but too dam heau
When on a shoot with tripod weighting 7 kilos , did think about getting a trolley but decided to go for new lens

I could have told you the 400 2.8 is too heavy to move very far or very quickly ! I use the 300 2.8 with 1.4 and 2X - MUCH more manageable ! Smaller than this, I use the Sigma 100-300 F4 with 1.4X - very, very sweet lens! They are discontinued and now sell for around $600 new or used. If you absolutely have to have an L lens, I would go with the 300 F4 with 1.4X - same IQ as 400 5.6 in a slightly smaller lighter more versatile package !

Why is it people can't do as they are asked, instead they post everything but what they are asked for?

Here are three photos taken with the 400mm f5.6 lens. All were fairly heavily cropped. The last phot was not cropped so you can see how heavy.

This is one of Canons older "L" seris lenses still in production which says something for this lens. I don't think you would be unhappy with it, I know I am not.
