buffy - I'm new....almost as new as you to this digital stuff but I'm finding that one of the most important things for me is to learn my camera. I need to have things come, second nature and having to stop an think about what to do to achieve my goal with regard to the camera itself and I find this is daunting.
I use a Nikon but if you are getting to know your Canon I would suggest staying with it, at least for now.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Looks perfect as far as focus especially the eyes which i think is most important for Potrait. Experiment with post processing and see if you can make it more pleasing to your eyes.

I think these are darn good images. #1 shows a little sass & #2 is adorable. For my 2ยข, I find that shutter speed tends to be the biggest culprit for images that lack the sharpness I'm looking for. Due to subtle camera shake or subject movement, shots @ ss of 60-120 just aren't as sharp as the ones @ 250-400.

I cannot seem to take a good photo, I just purchased
a 24-70, 50 1.4. Seems they are never sharp. I have read
until I think my head will explode, taken classes and taken
pictures of anything that will let me. Can anyone look at my photos's and give me an idea of what I am doing wrong,
besides I'm always in a hurry or someone is moving.
I love photography but I think I am lousy at it. I think I wasted all that money on lens for nothing.
Thanks for all advice.

I think you have low self-esteem and are at least borderline delusional. May I borrow your wonderful models, please? :-)

Thanks to all of you for the encouragement, I feel much
better about them now. Its amazing what words do to help
another when they are unsure of themselves.
You people are great.

Hi Buffy, I think your pictures are very good. I usually don't give advise but I will throw in my two cents which is probably worth one cent. I almost always shoot aperture preferred. When taking pictures of people change your focus to one point and put it right on the eye. Shoot wide open and take several pictures closing the aperture. This for me this was a good starting point. The most important thing is to keep shooting. Best of luck! :D :D

I really like the original, but I think you have improved it. Really brings out the eyes - how very interesting.

The second shot is exquisite. It is good to want to continue improving and you are definitely being too hard on yourself.
