looks like, so far, that sx50hs will not yield raw(cr2) files for auto mode, sports mode, scene modes
any ideas on how to get raw in especially these modes ... auto, sports, scene
thanks for your advice

The Canon manual on pages 146 and 275 give you all the info you need about the RAW function in the SX50. When this is selected, here are the limits imposed on the camera:
digital zoom set to OFF, date stamp set to OFF, red-eye reduction set to OFF. In addition, i-Contrast, My Colors, and Noise Reduction cannot be configured. A simple deduction of the limits imposed on each of these six functions should tell you what modes you can shoot in. You should investigate this yourself so that you'll know firsthand exactly what your SX50 can do.

In you camera's manual, check out page 146.

I'll put my thought here, if you don't mind, Ester. I like it when responders refer to a manual page.

I am well familiar with the use of manuals but if one does NOT have the right question it can be hell to find the answer using the Index.

So maybe the one asking searched the index and could not identify the topic with the question they had in mind - this happens to me at times, expecially camera manuals.

So please keep this in mind before you reference a manual page in a manner that is sacrcastic or implies you think the person asking should have known to do so and should have before posting their question.

My two cents.

Before anyone asks - my experience with maunals goes back to electronic equipment manuals in the Navy, rate and rule manuals for life and property and casualty insurance as well as as well as other misc. types.

Bob,
First, what does YOUR experience with manuals have anything to do with everyone else's experience?
Second, I did not consider Esther's response to see page 146 sarcastic. She simply gave the page number and left it up to the inquirer to go there.
Third, if the one making inquiries to this topic about RAW had gone to Canon's index in the SX50 manual, guess what he would have found under the "R" section? RAW, page 146....plain and simple, buddy. The truth is, YOU are the one who should have investigated before responding as you did. Personally, I think an apology to Esther is in order....but that's your call.
