I have a Rebel T1i, with both 18-55mm and 55-250mm lens. I need a screw-on type lens protection lens and a remote shutter release (for wildlife shots at a distance of 15-50 ft away.
I need advise from all you pros who've provided me with such an abundance of information in recent weeks. I'm a novice trying to catch up. Thanks

Hi Dawg, sorry can't help with the remote release, but I put Hoya PRO1Digital UV filters on the front of all my lenses.

I work on the basis that its cheaper to replace a damaged/broken filter than the front element of a lens, or even the whole lens.

I will be interested to see what other responses you get.

Thanks for the advice, Malcolm. I will get some of those filters. I should correct my earlier email - my camera is a Rebel T2i not a T1i. No other responses yet. Chuck

Hi Dawg. After much research on the subject, including following conversations on this site; I do not use a UV filter at all, but rather a clear filter. The'experts' claim that unlike film cameras, digitals are not affected by UV rays. I use B+W Digital MRC F-Pro clear filters. They are a little pricy but, they will protect your lens and give zero distortion.

Thanks, Reyn. I noticed when searching for filers that they are in odd numbers such a 47mm or 72 mm. How do I know what size to buy for my two lens?

Again, many thanks! Do you know anything about remote shutters for cameras? Years ago it was a cable, now I see they are infrared or electronic shutter releases. I need one for taking photos of birds/hawks from distances of 20ft to 150ft.

I have both cable and the remote shutter release for my T3i. With theremote release you must be infront of and facing the camers. THis is good if you want to be in the picture and not worry about setting the timer.

I picked up a Vello freewave radio release for under $40.00.
Works up to 300ft and you can be anywhere even behind a wall and it works just fine. Think I picked it up at Amazon.
