Hi,
I was needing some help with my camera, I for about 4 years now have been using a canon xti, and have loved it, but about a month ago, it quit taking pictures, I got it cleaned, reset the camera like canon told me too, but it will only take a picture once in awhile, , I use different lenses, and nothing works, the camera will turn on, the flash will work when it does take pictures, but very slow at taking them, and it is like the buttton that you push to take the picture isn't connecting or something, not sure, any ideas, do you think it can be fixed or should I just buy a new camera?
Thanks. Heather.

Are your batteries rechargable litium ion that came with the camera? If so it may be time to replace the batteries. If it isnt a rechargeable battery swith to energizer lithiums they may do the trick. I am a Nikonian so I know nothing about what kind of batteries cannon uses. however from what you describe it sounds like your camera is not getting power. If you change batteries and that doesnt work I would send it in for an estimate. It may be a simple problem and to fix it would be cheaper than to replace it. If you get a copy of shutterbug magazine in the back they have a section that lists camera repair services from around the country. I just thought of something else you can try. Take your battery out and with the eraser part of a pencil rub and clean the contacts.
Ok, thanks I will try anything right now.
If a new battery doesn't seem to work then try calling Canon service and ask if they have any trade in upgrade programs going on. I was having an issue with an Error 99 (shutter issue) on my 40D some time ago and was offered a trade in upgrade to a 50D body for about half the price.
If they don't it may not be worth repairing and a new body would be a better investment. Good luck.
