Good Afternoon All: I have been watching the Forum for quite some time. You are all great and very helpful! I was driving along a road in Horseheads by Mill Pond, which is a shallow pond used for youth fishing. This large duck walked in front of my car and jumped in the pond. I jumped out of the car with my D7000, which had a Nikkor 16-85mm DX lens on it and took a few pictures. I have showed the photo to quite a few people and no one can identify what kind of duck it is. Does anyone know what it is?

Nice shot of a Moskovy duck. They are everywhere in Florida and can be a problem,

Take Gregory's word for it. This is definitely a Muscovy.

One that would be good with a nice orange sauce.

They are the only domestic duck that can fly. I use to raise them for show and eating. Two miles is the most they can handle at a time in flight. I had 40 some of them. One female took over the dog's house and would peck her every time she got near it. Then my young daughter at about 8 years reached in and the female pecked her on the neck and she came out with a big hickey (sp) on her neck. Well... the number of days passed and she hatched all 32 eggs. Now we have 32 ducklings. My daughter was given a big turkey for 4-H to show. Turkeys aren't the brightess bulb in the box, this turkey being young, even though good size, followed at the end of the line of ducklys as though he belonged to that family. Not only eat with them, sleep and yes! Swim in the pond with them, a swimming turkey!

Good Morning All:

Thank you all for the prompt answers. I find it very interesting that this duck has come so far north?

They could be products of Sandy, many of our southern birds were blown north and many of the northern birds came south for the first time in search of food.
