I edited my photos in lightroom 4 and when i take them to get printed some look the way they did on the screen and every so many i would find one that is too dark or too saturated or. I figured it might be from the way the photo centers printers are calibrated. I was told each place is calibrated differently. I get my photos printed at places like sams club, walmart, ect. How can i prevent this from happening to my prints?
If Sam's Club is same as Costco and you order online, there is a place to turn auto-correct OFF. That will help with some. I still have occasional prints come out a slightly different color than what I see on my computer.
I know my laptop displays my images lighter than Costco prints, so I always lighten a copy before sending in. I've read on UHH that some places will specially calibrate for one image. Have you checked with Sam's Club as to whether they will do that?
Your monitor has not been calibrated to match the printer you are using. LCD/LED monitors are notoriously over-bright and this is a widespread problem. Calibrate your monitor to the printer you use and all will be well.

All of the above plus, could you send a few of the same prints to each processor you use and then use the results as a comparison?

Are you sizing before pp? I would size as large as you think you might ever want, because it makes a big difference when printed. If you don't size your photo may look good in a 3x5, and aweful in 16x20. You need to see it as large as possible before sending it off.
Your screen is backlight. Your paper is reflective light rather that backlight like the screen. Also, you are dealing with two entirely different systems of color. The screen is RGB the print is CYMK. Even with red and green inks the difference will be there. This is because the screen not pigment/ dye whereas the print is.
First calibrate you monitor, become familiar with the people at Sam's Club, check drycreekphoto.com to see if that have the profile for the printers at your local Sam's Club, install the profile on your computer and try again. I use the my local Costco every now and then, and when there is a problem I go directly to them. They will redo the image as I request.
