Hi:
I am considering getting a gimbal head for my tripod and telephoto lenses. I have looked at the Induro GBH-2, Jobu BWG-J3K and the Optecka GH1 Pro. The Opteka is the least expensive and I understand is made in China. I would appreciate and advice on these or other choices you all might have or have used.
I will be using it with my Canon 300mm L f/2.8 and my Canon 70-200L f/2.8.
Thanks in advance for the information.
I just received my Opteka GH1 head today. I must say I was disappointed with the quality of the unit: somewhat stiff and binding in places but a little bit of silicon lubricant seem to have helped; this is my first impression but I will give it chance and see how it works before sending it back. Can't beat the price if it works.

I called the distributor before I bought mine as was told it would be stiff to start out with. However, I have had mine a few weeks now and it has become a lot easier to use. I have used a Wimberly and it is not a $600.00 or $594.00 unit from ADORAMA. But for the $150.00 it's just fine. Put the rest of your cash into a Carbon Fiber Tripod or better glass. The more you use it the more it will get that smooth turn & swing. It is a sealed unit like the Wimberly just not built with the same components. If your looking for a cost effective Tripod look at the WeiFeng FT 575T Retails for $238.00 and sells on eBay for $178.00 and is a Carbon Fiber #8 Product.
Enjoy!

MT Shooter's "Slight modification" was to dis-assemble, clean, deburr, re lube and re-assemble. Not a hard job IMO. If mine ever shows up, that is what will happen first.

My GH-1 Gimbal has become more & more fluid, without having to add any extra lube to it. I do know that the other cheaper models are rated for a lower weight load and it is stated as such.
However, if you can make it work for you great! My is working better each day. There is a year warranty on this Gimbal so I really do not feel I need to do much more to it at the moment.
Let us know if you can take yours apart as it is suppose to be a sealed unit.
Enjoy your Gimbal!

Thanks for your input. I am not giving up yet; I am willing to try it longer. Just on the second day of working it and "excercising" it, it seems much smoother. We'll see.
Good for you! Think about how it should be on the 3rd week.
Your going to love how it pans moving birds and animals.
ENJOY,
Jim
