These were all taken using Canon 50D with the Canon 100-400L with the exceptions of the itchy Cardinal taken with Canon 5DMkII and the Thrasher. I used the Canon 75-300MRP lens there.

Still have them virtually "eatin' out of your hand", eh "Bama".

Love all of them Donna! That one with the male cardinal with his "mouth" open looks like he's talking to you! :)

Thanks so much, Cynthia. I shoot birds in shutter priority mode with a shutter speed of at least 1/400sec. A shutter speed slower than that will usually give you a result that's not very sharp unless the bird is completely still, and birds aren't still for very long unless there's a hawk around. The higher the shutter speed the sharper the photo with birds. I set my ISO depending on the shutter speed and how much light I have. Some people shoot birds using manual mode, but I just have better results with moving things using shutter priority. I don't know very much, but I'll be glad to help any way I can. Just send me a PM.

Stunning Dixie! I could learn a lot from you. What were your settings?
Thanks so much, Cynthia. I shoot birds in shutter ... (show quote)

Thanks. I shoot birds in manual...probably slower than 400. I'll shoot shutter priority next time out. You are right...if they are still, I get lucky. I'd rather be more consistent, than lucky :)

Dixie, you always have such nice bird photos, what is the distance between you and them most often?
