Travelling Panos

I have shot many panos from a stationary source but that is just a wee bit hard to do in a boat. I'm thinking that as I travel down the river I can take several shots every few seconds and stitch em together. Now I'm aware of the parallax issues but the river is wide so it may not be too intrusive. Has anyone tried this before? I'm going try a test by walking down the street and trying it but maybe a few of you can tell me if I'm crazy.

No your not crazy. Sound like it could get interesting.
Haven’t done this moving. A few thing that come to mind is you may need the interval a little closer depending on your speed. Remember there needs to be a 20% overlap and if going for a really wide shot you need to shoot in portrait to give enough hight to the picture. With this said in portrait your interval will be even closer. Experiment you may have to make more than one trip. Let us know how it goes.

I reckon I'll need at least 50% overlap with the movement to combat the parallax. Portait was a given but as the shore is fairly far away I'll be using a zoom, but not too much. Just enough to keep excess sky and water down to a manageable quantity. The shoot isn't till May so I have time to test. I'll let you know the test results. :)

Personally, I don't think parallax is going to be your biggest obstacle. But I've never done something like this, so I can't really say. How did your street walking pano come out?

I think you should face the bank perpendicular or some constant angle and take the photos with the overlap others have mentioned.
