Great shots Gene. Would not want to be that close. Reminds me of when I was in college in upstate NY in the 60's. My room mate and I were driving at night down a dark road and accidentally struck one that lodged in the wheel well. If you remember back then the cars vented through the wheel well. Needless to say the skunk did not survive and neither did the car. Fire cleanses all.

I enjoyed your pics but please be wary of nocturnal animals that come out during the day; uncharacteristic behaviour is a possible sign of rabies. Raccoons and skunks can both carry the disease.

 Nice story, Brian. We are aware of the rabies situation. This one didn't display any of the characteristics of rabies, but we will be watching. We think this critter had just emerged from hibernation and was out looking for a mate because it visited most of the known (to us) burrows in the neighborhood. If this persists in showing up in day time, we will be in touch with the exterminator.

Glad you like the pics, and thanks for looking. -- Gene

Your shots are absolutely amazing on so many levels.

Here where rabies in skunks is epidemic, we worry when we see them running around in the daytime. I've also lost track of the number of times I've washed "skunk" off of my dogs! Tomato juice is the old treatment. In addition to some of the specialized shampoos available, you can use a combination of hydrogen peroxide, artificial vanilla extract and Dawn dishwashing liquid.

We had a family of 5 living in our heater ducts. It took a week and much creativity to get them to leave, but they never sprayed. Wish I had taken pictures.

Glad you like the pics, Vick. My daughter had a problem with her Golden Retreiver getting sprayed often. After she kept the dog in the garage without any contact with the family in the house for a few days, the dog got the message and didn't chase skunks again. Glad you got rid of your skunks. Thanks for looking. -- Gene

 Glad you were able to get the car cleaned. I remember those 60's cars. Every time you drove by a road kill you would speed up to get away from the stench. Glad you like these and thanks for looking.

Glad you like them, John. Yes, it has lots of white. I've seen some where its back was completely white. Stripes vary, but this one has a nice coat. Thanks for the thumbs up and thanks for looking.

 Keeping a respectful distance is always the best policy when it comes to most wild critters. I'm glad my lens was long enough so I could stay far enough away and still get the pics. Thanks for looking.

Times like these make you appreciate a zoom on your camera instead of a zoom on your legs.

 You can say that again, Dan. And at my age, the legs aren't as fast as they used to be. Thanks for looking. -- Gene

That was a very good looking broad strip their hides bring the most at the fur traders. Very nice shots. You can be standing there looking him in the and he can spray you from cap to shoe soles before you can move. some say he can spray about twelve feet but I am not getting closer than twenty feet up wind.
