Hi, is a tamron 18-250 fs 3.5-6.3 aspherical DI II LD IF Macro a good walk around lens? I have a Pentax k30. Craigslist for $400. I'll be shooting everything. I currently have a 18-135 kit lens
Thanks,
Charlie.
Is this the older Tamron lens on Craigslist? The tamron has been 18-270mm for the last two generations. And when you say you have the 18-135mm lens. Is that the Pentax one with weather resistance? Because that is supposed to be a good lens, it doesn't have the reach of the Tamron lens though.
Not sure which generation lens is, 18-135 lens is Pentax, just thinking about a little more range for walk around lens

The 18-135 WR pentax lens is nice because of the waether sealing. My wife has the newer Tamron and likes it quite a bit. I undertsand your want of more reach for a walk around lens. $400.00 seems a bit high. EBay has them for around $320.00 plus shipping. Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.

if that was the 18-270 then it would have been a good price.
The Tamron 18-270 mm lens comes in two models, b003 (older and heavier) and the model b008 (present model, using pzd motor, faster and quieter). The b008 is available new for $650.00 less $100.00 rebate. It is also available on eBay for less if you check the action daily. I bought the b008 used in excellent condition for $445.
Just another quick thought, check and double check if the lense will mount on your camera.

LEGALDR...
The poster was speaking of the tamron 18-250, not the 18-270 so valued as your comment is, it does not apply to this posting.
Sorry. I'll read the postings more carefully next time.

Thanks,

I purchased a Tamron 18-200 a little over a year ago for my Pentax K-7. I wasn't happy with it until recently when I switched to spot focusing. Thanks to all of the tips I've picked up from this site, I'm getting much better results. I would add that if the 18-250 is comparable, you'll be happy with it.
Sigma has their 18-250 on sale for $399, $150 off.
I have the Tamron 18-270. Not bad. My wife has the Sigma I mentioned. Just got it okay so no firsthand impressions yet.

You should check out the Pentax Forum website. They have a marketplace where they sell Pentax related gear. Here is the link:
