It is an Ice Shredder or Shaver

At first I thought it was a portable melting pot; I missed the blade in the picture. We have one on display at the Huntington & Hopkins Hardware Store and Museum in Sacramento.

Yes you got it. That is it. They pulled across a large block of ice and the small chips filled the cup then they opened the top and placed the shaved ice on a paper cone. then pored on any flavor you liked. Rootbeer, orange or whatever. Thanks for playing.

D'oh!!! It ended too soon :( I was just on the way to finding out that The Enterprise Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia made all sorts of kitchen paraphernalia and some-one beat me. Still, it was fun researching :thumbup:

Okay -- merely to demonstrate my knowledge (and thus expose my, um, seniority), an "ashtray disposal 'thingy'" is/was called a "silent butler" . . . I think. Of course the implement depicted is no such thingy -- the rounded bottom rules it out as such.
