Lee Filter System

I recently ordered the Lee filter system from a well known photo shop. I specifically wanted the "Big Stopper". After placing my order I received an email indicating that it would be a 1-year wait for the parts. Is the Lee system worth the wait or is a system like Cokin just as good?

I ordered the adapter ring, filter holder and the filter. I wasn't told which part would take a year, but without all three, it was worthless to place the order

Cokins mount leaves a bit to be desired when compared to the Lee mount, but I have used mine for almost 30 years and still going strong. I have a few Cokin filters for it, and a few Tiffen glass ND grads. And there is no wait to buy any of them.

Thanks for the info, I'll check out the Cokin system this weekend.

If you're not going to use graduated ND filters why buy the holder and adapter ring? Why not just buy a circular filter?

I ordered the big stopper and waited 16 months. I still have not got it. I do have other Lee filters including ND's and ND grads and the quality and workmanship is unsurpassed. It is truly a pleasure to get them out and use them. They are expensive and hard to get but, you will not be sorry. I'm still waiting.

I use Haida which come in various sizes to fit all lenses, I also have a 85mm and 100mm Hitech slot in filter, both produce great results.

Cheers

I would check up Singh-Ray filters. If your using the large filters, the Lee holder is awesome, I use it with you Singh-Ray filters. It is made much better that others on the market. I would not use Colkin filters, they cause a color cast because the quality is not as good as Lee or Singh-Ray.

I concur. I have many B+W filters (including the 10 stop), and they are great quality. I have the B+W graduated nd filter, and it was a waste of $$$. Not because of quality, but because it's difficult to line up the horizon. I bought the LEE system mainly because I like the 4x6 instead of the 4x4. It gives you some more room to move. I then got the Singh Ray graduated 2 stop, and 3 stop Galen Rowell filters. They were not cheap ($160 each), but nothing of quality is.

If you contact the company you ordered from, I bet you'll find that what is taking the time is the adaptor ring. Is it 77mm?? That's probably the most popular one, and I had trouble getting it. B&H didn't have it. In fact, nobody had it!! I did an extensive search, and found a small camera shop in central PA that had 10 in stock. I didn't believe it so I called. Then, when I was told they did have them, I asked them to physically check to make sure. I ordered 1 from them, and the rest of the stuff from B&H. I just checked B&H, and most are listed as "back ordered".

I order my holder from the same camera store in Pa., they were the only store that had the holder.
