Where were you standing when you took the first and third picture? I've found it very hard to sneak up on a heron, once you start getting close they spook. Same with the alligators.
Good shots.

Depends what your experiment is... If its a way to sneek up on a heron I would say your doing great.

Good shots.

When you first come up, they do spook. If you wait patiently they sometimes return. With no sudden movements, they may stay for awhile. I was about 10-15 feet away from the heron and maybe 20 from the gators. When gators are sunning, its possible to get just a few feet from them.

The best luck I ever had getting close to a heron was when I saw one walking through my back yardÂ… I grabbed my camera with a long zoom lens and ran out the front door. Ran around my neighborÂ’s house and found a good place to wait for it and stopped, waiting for it to walk into view. Sure enough it came around and did not seem to notice me. Bet I shot around 100 pictures on continues fast (8 fps) in 3 to 5 shot bursts. The heron only noticed me when I moved the camera to make a vertical shot, then it turned around and started walking in the other direction. When I moved the camera back to a horizontal shot it flew. But I did get some nice pictures of it before it spooked.

In number 1, it looks like your lens focused on the Cypress instead of the heron. Other than that, it's great.

a lot of times, I like to include the surroundings to make the picture more interesting. Did focusing on the Cypress distract from the Heron, do you think?

Hi Molly! Nice pictures. If you wanted to send me the original of the gators I can remove the grass in the foreground for you :)

You have to tell me how to send it. I'm also new to computers.
