Playing around with my Canon SX150 is, I tried out the Digital Tele-Extender to see just how bad it was. This house is somewhere between 1/3, and 1/2 mile up on the hill from where I am staying.
Turns out its not to bad at all, for hand-held 705mm zoom. Not including, its at a reduced resolution of 1600x1200 2mp. :)

Where did you get the Digital Tele-Extender?

I didn't get it, the SX150 has it built in (so does my G12). I assume it works on the principal of reducing the sensor size, and increasing the focal X factor. You have to turn the format size down, to 1200x1600 or 2mp. to get it to work.
But as you see it works really well, and made a 4x6 print from this file as sharp as a tack. Would have made a 5x7, but didn't have the paper. Its not like digital zoom, as it moves the whole range up, the low end goes from 28mm up to a minimum of 64.5mm, the top end to 705.5mm.
The SX230 also has this. :)
Is there a name to this method?
Will I find something in the instruction book.
I also have a Powershot SD1300. Will it work on this model also?

Yep; they call it Digital Tele-extender, its listed in the back of the manual in the index.
I saw it on page 56. I will try it out.

I just sent you a PM, yes its on your SD1300 also. :)
Yes, I found it. I'm going to go outside tomorrow and give it a try. I'll use a tripod or something and the self timer to trigger the shutter. I don't want to create camera shake.
Thanks again for setting me straight on this.
