spotted this girl resting under some pine trees while driving back roads from Westcliff to canon city. Took the picture from the car so not to spook her.
resting deer - midday
Hope you don't mind me saying but I think it was you who was spooked. There is some camera shake here. :) On the other hand, if you had stopped to do the job properly then you would probably have missed the shot. You win some you loose some, that's the beauty of photography. Keep it up!
Thanks for the tips, looking back at the metadata I had been shooting in aperture mode at F11, which is what I took this shot at. the speed was 1/8 way to slow. New at all this, next time for a shot like this I will use auto or scene mode. Really didn't want to spook this deer in the middle of the day, I know she was in safe mode here. Also was using 18-300mm zoom, this shot a 260mm.
Yes 1/8 is far too slow, but using that focal length you did very well. You must have a steady hand. I think the rule is same speed as focal length. So at 260 you should have used at least 1/250th. What camera were you using?
Ah just seen your sig details. A Nikon d7000. Personnaly I always use Aperture priority and check the speed in the viewfinder. I use a Canon so I don't know too much about Nikons.
It is a sweet photo and I'm really happy to hear you did not cause the deer any discomfort in an attempt at a more perfect pic.
