Steve: Very nice set of images. I love shooting flowers in the spring and summer time. No flowers here except our out of sync Christmas Cactus that is still blooming.

Thanks to all the others that posted through out this thread. Nice work folks

Hello Bret. :-) I think the point being made in this post is that although macro has its merits so do close ups. Although probably not intended I think your comment is leading us back to Macro. It is easily possible to take stunning close ups from 5 feet or more. In my opinion, the whole purpose of close up is to capture the subject in its surroundings not fill the frame just with the subject itself. regards

Thanks, that cat is my alarm system. I need to get up at 5AM to start taking meds and she is there before the alarm goes off. Then she is up on that pillow on top of the bookshelf and I hardly see her throughout the day.

A close up section would be great. the macro thread tolerates me throwing in some closeups now and then as long as I label them as such. I shoot both regularly.

I can't understand why The True Macro Group does not have a sub section for close up. Then members can pick the appropriate section when posting. I think most people are aware of The True Macro requirements by following the threads.

Some very nice close-up shots in here....and yes I wouldn't mind seeing a close-up section on the forum as well. If you have a macro lens...look at the top of the lens...it will have the following
1:
m
ft
Just rotate the lens barrel until you see 1:1...move your camera closer to your subject to focus and take a photo...now you have a true macro shot...captured at 1:1 magnification. Zooms...tele...and wide lens do not have this capability.

Thanks Bret for the information very good of you to spell it out.

Another good reason why a close up sub-section would be a good idea; for those who do not have and cannot afford a Macro lens. We know there are alternatives reversed lens + extension rings, bellows etc. But with proper lighting (ring flash) it is a considered purchase.

It does not matter if Macro or close up all are good picture
As is posted is a litle dificult sai is a Macro I particularly don't know the size of flower to qualify as Macro, not always the use of macro lens made the pic a Macro.
All are nice.

Many beautiful shots. I must say I have a hard time finding more beautiful subjects to shoot than florals. They are certainly near the top of my list. Here are a few of my shots to include in the fun........
