Ok, it won't be until Aug 21 2017 but I wanted to get your attention because we can't all just get up and head out at the last minute. But, it might be the only chance to see and photo one and this one cuts the US in half lengthwise. This website shows it's path and what it will look like depending on your location. This is only an early headsup and something to think about....

http://shadowandsubstance.com/2017/2017e.htmlThank you for this post! I have seen a partial solar eclipse but never a total eclipse. I have just forwarded the link to a friend who lives a little north of Charlotte N.C. and told them to expect me on their doorstep on Aug. 19Th 2017.
Thanks again, Bill

At this point that's where I hope to be. I'm in Fla so that would be about the closest place to catch it. I figure about six months beforehand I'll reserve a room for a couple nights at a local motel, get there the day before and stay the night after and head back home. It's about a 500 mile drive.
Looks like I would be about 95% from my house but could be on the southern limit of total eclipse in about 100 mi. TNmike

Well for the sake of only 100 miles I think it would be worth it to make the drive!

Yep, and the total will be about 1:30 PM so would be an easy day trip. TNmike

I was just reading up on it and using Google maps, looks like Mt. Pleasant SC would be the best location for someone driving up from Florida. Looks like driving down 95 back home passes close by a lot of interesting sites and estuaries, forts, etc... just thinking maybe I'll make a week vacation out of it. 4 years to plan for it so this might turn into a week long photo vacation.

I noticed on the site that the beast place to see the total eclipse for the longest time is between Clarksville Tn. and Hopkinsville Ky. That is where Fort Campbell Ky. is located. I was stationed there a long time ago and I remember there were several hotels in the area so if a hotel is part of you plan then getting on the "bulls eye" might be worth the extra driving. Wherever you decide to stay I think you should book your room more than six months in advance and try to lock in your price. Once the hotels figure out what is going on the prices will go up. Good luck.

I'm 142 mi from Clarksville, TN and 154 mi from Hopkinsville, KY. Looks like I will be able to see the whole 2 min 40 sec show. :) Now that is if CocoaRoger remembers to remind me in 4 years. :) TNmike
I live between Clarksville and Nashville. Will make the short drive for sure.
Wish I could say that I am organized enough to plan something that far in advance.....I have trouble with a monthly schedule....will be interesting to see the feedback and comments on this though
