What is the difference between a $569 speedlight and a $77 speedlight? Besides price.

First might I recommend that you add a little more detail to you thread title for example "I have a question about speedlights" you'll find you get a better response. As for your question, without knowing what speedlights you're trying to compare the only difference is the price.

As you can gather from the posts the difference can be huge, but the real question is do you need a $569 flash or will the $77 dollar one suit your needs.

What are you wanting to do with the speedlights? Basic no frills fill lighting? The $77 one might suit you needs, thou I would strongly suggest you at least invest in a speedlight that has an adjustable head (it doesn't have to cost $500+, I believe you can find older models with swivel heads around $200) , you will get more use out of it and be please with the results if you can bounce the light.

Yes, basic no frills fill lighting. I'm not sure what frills lighting would be with a single on camera speedlight. Since I haven't had one before and am planning on getting one and I'm seeing these huge price differences, I was just wondering what could possibly justify the price of $500 and up for one of these, as opposed to ones selling for around $35, $58, $77, and up with swivel heads. I'm just wondering how much more an almost $600 flash can do than any of the others. As far as dependability and reliability, the lesser priced ones don't flash sometimes? What makes them unreliable?

MT Shooter pretty much summed it up for you, but unless you indicated the models involved, it would be hard to be more specific.

If you are talking Canon speedlites there is a 600ex-et that goes for 600.00 and has a spec. List about as long as your arm. Then you can look at the YN-480 ( I think I am not at a computer I am on my phone ) it has a short spec. list, no bells or cool looking green screens with all your settings showing. Google the the high price one and read about it an then do the low price one, then I think you will see the why the price range
