Excellent, we don't have a single elm left in UK, I had forgotten what they look like!

Here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is supposedly the largest forest of American Elms in North America. From the air in the summer all you see is green. But we also have to fight off Dutch elm disease.

It's a sad thing to have happen to a city. It is a big loss. We are fighting the curse here. Our prevention program seems to work, We just need more money for the program.

I bought a Bower 8mm fish eye from B&H last year for $220. I like it a lot. It definitely is a fun lens but it also can add effects to a shot. Great for scenery, inside buildings anywhere my 10-22mm won't work. Totally manual lens which is not an issue. The fish eye effect doesn't have to distract if the photo is taken right.

Gerrpet, I have to agree with you, when used in moderation it can be a great tool in the bag. And may I add that your B&W example is a wonderful shot, I would hang that one on my wall for sure.

I took this with my fisheye and won first place and $500 with it in a calendar contest. So I figure the lens was free and money left over besides!

Nice shot.

my lens is a bower also--I am wondering if you have noticed something I noticed with mine--unfortunately too late. On the inside of the lens cap are the words lens cap in raised letters. The letters have left a small scratch in the lens. That did not make me happy. It shows up on photos where the subject is dark in that spot and I can usually get rid of it, but still that shouldn't have happened. So now I keep a tissue under the lens cap for a little padding so it won't happen again. I had the lens for about 6 months when I noticed what had happened and maybe should have complained--but didn't.

I noticed the raised lettering also but I didn't think it could touch the lens. If you take the cap off and put the lens on a flat surface like a table and look at the clearance between the front element and table it has to be at least 1/8" then there's another 1/8" when the cap is clipped on the lens hood. The raised lettering is around 1/32". I just checked. If the cap was not lined up with the hood the closest the lens comes to the raised lettering would be about 3/32", that should be enough clearance. Maybe there was some foreign object it the cap that caused the scratch. Could be your cap is different then mine, anyway I'll keep that in mind on my lens.

it was after a trip I noticed the scratch and I kind of think something heavy got set on top of it in my camera bag and pushed to cap down onto the lens as I was maybe overpacking my bag--live and learn

Hmmm. A fisheye lens hazard I never thought of.
Even if you lose a generous gut, your mismatched socks or untied shoes may then come into view.

Well as I posted earlier...I bought the Rokinon 8mm 3.5 for my 7D for $214. Even if I only use the thing 10 times a year and out of those 10 times I get 2 or 3 what I feel are wow shots, then at that price it's worth it to me. Plus I know it will always be here any time I might want to use it.

If I keep it for ten years then it ends up costing me $21 and change a year. I can live with that.

Here are my examples with a Sigma 8mm fisheye
