Hi my name is Mary. I have been a Uhh for a few weeks now. My first camera was an Minolta SRT 100 with a 55mm lens. This was 35 years ago. Then I got a Minolta X-700 with a 70 mm lens then got a 300 mm. I finally got into digital. My first digital was a Minolta A-200. A couple of years ago I got myself a Nikon D-5000. After all these years I can say I do not know any more now, then when I started. But I do know I rather use the black and white film with one of the older Minoltas. Not happy with the black and white from the digital. Unless I am doing something wrong. Only problem with using film I can not fine a decent place to develope it. Does any one in the Toledo area know of a good place to develope black and white film. Other then the drug store?

I hope these help because I love B&W also.
Somewhere I read if you want B&W on digital shoot in color then change in it a program. Hope this helps.

I still have an X-700 Minolta, although I haven't used it in some time. I had taken lots of pictures with it and it served me well.

Welcome to UHH!

Hi Mary. Welcome to the hog. If all you want to do is B/W, i would go to my local camera store and get a kit to develop your own B/W film. That way you control how the negs will turn out. I did my own darkroom work for many many years. I guess you could say i taught Mathew Brady how to take pictures. LOL

Thanks. I guess it could be something to look into. Not sure if I have a room I could use. But it's worth checking into.

For many Years i used a 3/4 bath with the enlarger in the shower and a board across the back of the toilet and the sink. You can always find room.

Welcome. Hope you find what you are looking for, but sounds like you have not given digital a real chance. Do a search on the topics here and I am sure you will find other posts on how to do b&w in digital without all the mess and fuss of going through developing and printing out film.

Thanks Rich. Guess I never thought about using my bathroom. But I guess to be honest I am a little scare to even try to develope my own black and white.

dwaynesphoto.com you have to mail it in to them. they were the last kodachrome lab in the country. better queastion is why you are not pleased with digital b/w? what problems you are having and how do you convert? Most recomended software for b/w conversions is Nik's silvereffects.

when i convert to monochrome in pse9, i tend to boost conrast cause i like the look.

Sinatraman, Thats a good question. I guess I do not think converting my color pictures to black and white does anything for the picture. It seems like, it just is not the true black and white that I like. At the present time I do not have any photo shop program that really can do anything. The only one I have is a Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album 5. Yes this program convert them but not happy with results. Guess I am just a chicken when it comes to changing my pictures. I just feel that if I change the picture then it is not true. Maybe I am just old school or just some nerdy freak. :)
