I'm impressed. You put together an entire paragraph without once using the word "LIKE". LoL. You must be over 20. :)

A reminder for what it's worth.
Picasa does NOT modify your original photo file.
Enhancements you perform on each photo will appear as you expect but only when viewed using Picasa.
You must EXPORT the enhanced photos in order for the modifications to become permanent.
Suggest exporting modified photos to a separate directory or rename as you go.

These points are not covered very well in the Picasa help files.

Oh Dear!
Do you mean that the photos are not coming through the way I made them look even after I saved them to a folder named "Picasa"?
At this moment, I have three forms of the photos I've tweaked with Picasa:
1. The original (always keep that, myself)
2. watermarked version (using another program, will have to re-do after the changes with Picasa because I softened it out lol)
and
3. The tweaked Picasa version (which is "saved as"... not "exported" to a folder called Picasa)

When I'm satisfied it'll all be good, I'll store the ORIGINALS on one flashdrive and the tweaked final versions on a separate one.

I DID notice that when I tried to save the tweaked version, even renamed, to the folder it came from, I kept getting error messages, so I quit trying to rename in Picasa... opting just to save as is to the Picasa folder.

Should I be doing an "export" in ADDITION to saving to the folder marked Picasa? I don't wanna have to do this all over again (fun as it is!) I have other photos I wanna go TAKE and need the energy to do it! hehe

Thank you for mentioning this!!!
*hugs of appreciation*

P.S.

Sinatraman and others who have participated in the religious discussion; for your clarification only: for me, it stands for "Oh my GOODNESS".

As far as I'm concerned, the READER can decide what "OMG" stands for ... based on their OWN opinion. It makes no difference to me at all. (My first husband would have said "Oh my Great-Googly-Moogly"... speaking seriously as a heart-attack here! )

However, even if it stood for "God" (or "Goddess" as some may believe)... I don't see what that has to do with photography.

I am being as polite as I know how to be (and still making my point here) only once on the subject.

I'm a staunch supporter of Separation of Church and State and although this is not a government forum; I don't want to see my thread go down in flames over a religious blow-up that has nothing to do with photography... even if it started out being fun or a facetious play-on-words.

I came to peek at my topic because I was HOPING to see some encouragement/help/or opinions on my pictures.

I'm honestly tickled by something THIS small. It was a big achievement for me... I live THAT simple a life.

To my great joy; a few DID comment and help spur me on... but to my chagrin... particular people, whose comments I've here-to-for, found helpful and encouraging... only offered stabs at my title.

This is America and our Freedoms allow for Freedom of Speech, naturally. But there's a time and an appropriate place. We each have topics that we start and anyone can start one based on religion. Feel free to start one on religious icons or something, that might lead to the platform you seek.

My topic is NOT religiously based and I don't want it to become so. I wanted feedback/appreciation/kudos or critique of my photos. That's why I'm enjoying this forum so much and hope to continue.

One's beliefs DEFINITELY shape who and what they are. I do not discriminate and I appreciate others who recognize that, regardless of their religious affiliation.

I am of the opinion that no-one will know "All Truths" until they pass on to whatever lies on the other side of this life.
I don't see any point arguing over it in THIS life, yanno?

I respect most everyone in here... a few more than others... for their photographic prowess, willingness to help, sense of humor and various other things. I see friendliness all around in here, and wish to make some acquaintances that FEEL like friendships at least.

It would be a shame for that to be spoiled over religious differences.

I understood and appreciated the humor in the few posts on this, but I can see it headed the wrong way quick if I don't say something.
So...

This is me... "saying something".

Please don't run one of the FEW posts of mine that anyone bothers to look at/comment on (despite the fact that I am so free in passing kudos around to others) into the ground, by going off-topic into a religious debate.

You won't change my mind about my beliefs and I certainly won't try to change yours. I promise.

It blesses my heart when I feel members are excited about positive reinforcement regarding their photo posts. I've seen too many candles snuffed out by ignorant, rude people trashing threads for some sick sense of power in doing so.

Photography is a wonderful, fulfilling hobby that spreads joy as well as capturing our world. We, as photographers, need to encourage the young and old alike to keep shooting, keep striving for the photos that impact all our lives.

Okay.
I get it.
And I appreciate your crusade... but this particular acronym could stand for whatever the reader wants it to, imo.

When I read your comment (and knowing what I know of you thus far regarding your religious preferences), I wanted to nip this in the bud.

I'm enjoying the attention all of a sudden... on my page. Thank you for that! And I don't want to ruin what could become mutually respectful friendships by my response.

But I know I won't get that respect if I didn't clarify my position right away.

No harm done, I hope.

Respectfully,
T~

I think people spend to much time on the pc working
with software trying to fix photos instead of learning
to take good photos with the camera.Learn to be a good
photographer first and then you want have to spend to
much time on the pc fixing something you should have
gotten right the first time,just a thought.photonut

And it's a very GOOD thought, imo.
I'm self-taught, in everything. When I got this camera a couple of years ago, there was no manual that explained much of the "what this does"... let alone "how to do____". I've learned a lot along the way and in general, get perfectly great photos with my camera. Personally-satisfying, anyway.

It wasn't until recently, when I took a plunge by encouragement of family and friends, to enter into a local contest. It was more for the publicity of the local Waterfowl Museum, but that made my entering, even more important, imo. Kind of my "civic duty" to help promote our local "gems", yanno?

I was FLOORED by the caliber of photographs submitted by others, who DID tweak their photos in major ways.
And I was overwhelmingly pleased when people who didn't know me... complimented on my photos.

My stuff wasn't tweaked... it was right out of the camera.
Those compliments assured me that I'm on the right track and that I belonged there! My stuff blended right in there! (and I have a sucky $59 printer right now, 'cause my GOOD one went up two weeks before the contest. Since the prizes didn't involve money, I didn't have the ability to splurge on professional printing, either... which makes a difference!)

Anyway, you can't imagine how good their comments made me feel.

I don't intend to have to tweak my pictures every time. I don't have a high-end digital camera with extra lenses and filters and the like that I can use manually to get the optimum shot I'm looking for.

All I really want, is for the photo to translate authentically, what my eye sees at that moment. I need to learn what the different settings DO and what they MEAN... and in the meantime, those that I've taken already that are worthy... I'll tweak with Picasa and call it a day.

You're absolutely right! I'll be happy when I master this ... and "get it right the first time"!

Thanks for your comment :)

Another EXQUISITE photo!
WOWSA!

I REALLY love the unusual perspective in this one!
Crystal Clear! (which is the most frequently used "tweak" in Picasa for me lol)

Thank you for sharing... made me smile this morning :)

This is a very common topic on photographic forumS, get it in the camera or post process. If you shoot in RAW mode you have no choice. The camera doesn't adjust anything. You must sharpen every RAW photo. A camera, whether in auto-exposure or full manual adjust itself to the largest light source area it finds in the frame. That means if a group of folks is standing on a beach with an open sky you'll underexposed people unless you adjust or compensate. Once you do the sky & sand will be overexposed. Post processing is necessary and a fact of life. Some photographers I refer to as purist besmirch Photoshop or any post processing. Generally speaking they don't know how to use it. Camera gear, lighting equipment and graphic software are all tools of the trade. I want the best tools I can get.

I've seen it suggested many times, to shoot in RAW format... but honsetly, I don't even see any setting on my camera for shooting RAW. Even if I did, I don't have other gear like different kinds of lights, etc. to compensate for it.

I'm with you, Bob. I appreciate being able to make slight adjustments via post-shot processing... "slight" being the operative word.

Although I was THRILLED last night, when I was able to make something worth keeping out of a photo of a special moment between my g-daughter and husband (her "Poppie")... that was so bad and out-of focus, I was going to delete it. I never did delete.. kept hoping I might learn something to fix it somehow.

Gonna see if I can share the before and after here.
Although it's STILL not "perfect" I made it much better with processing and I'm happy with it.

What do you think?
Is there anything I can do to get rid of that bit of blurriness in her face that remains??
(The first one is the corrected one... had a devil of a time finding the original since I didn't even name it, I thought it sooo bad LOL)
