Flash off the camera ...
Can a Canon 450D (Xsi) handle a remote flash? I keep seeing people talking about moving the flash off the camera but they are using 7D's or other ... haven't seen anyone talk about it on a 450D. I couldn't find anything in the manual or the "450D For Dummies" book.

In the online info I found, your camera can work with any of Canon EX speedlight flashes.
If you have a camera shop close by, you can probably go by and take one for a in store test ride.

I use the 450D and it absolutely can use remote flash. If you want to be able to take advantage of ETTL (Evaluative Through The Lense) metering, I would recommend the 430 EXII or the top of the line 580 EXII. You can trigger these remotely by using either a cord or a wireless trigger. Even if you just get a 2 ft. cord and hold the flash with one hand, the improvement in your shots will be evident.
There is also a great book available called "Speedliter's Hndbook by Syl Arena. It is filled with Canon Speedlite flash photo ideas. I strongly recommend it.
Hope this helps :)
Thanks for the replies ... appreciate it.
Right on, vciro, I've used my xsi for all kinds of affairs, indoor and out, with 430 flash, tilted with "STO-FEN" diffuser, on "Stroboframe" off camera bracket. I set the camera on Program, the ISO on 200 or 400 depending on room geometry and subject size and depth, center weighted exposure and standard picture style. The results are consistently good - nary a bad shot. Try it, you'll like it!Geo.K.
