I jump back and forth with photography and pastels. It seems that photograph brings me more pleasure in ways cause I can take allot of pics and I know something is going to come out.

Usually on the week-ends, but on some weekdays as well. It is one hobby that can make stress go right out the window, especially if one is still learning. I get so caught up in playing with the settings and comparing images that the stressful situations of the day just fall by the wayside.

That's a tough question to answer. For me it changes depending on a number of things. For example, spring time, great to take picture of things in bloom, so the camera comes out more. In summer when I travel to new and exciting places the camera comes out more then too. In fall, when the leaves turn, I take alot of that type of shots. Winter is OK, when we have weather come through. If some of the above isn't happening the camera stays in the bag.

I do take day trips on occasion, so I'll take it along then. Sometimes I have to really find a reason to use my camera, other times I get inspired and taking pictures comes very easy.

Thank you all! Very different answers which is great. I wondered does it matter how often, after such a big investment. I see it doesn't really.

With me, I get bored taking the same shots over and over. I recently have found some new subjects local to me that I have been taking advantage of. One thing that keeps going through my head is that you must practice with your camera to keep improving. If I haven't used my camera for awhile, sometimes I forget to check my settings or how to use certain features. That is one reason I try to get out even if it isn't for anything real artistic.

That is very true Kestrel. Practice is a must, at least for me.

I'm retired and am fortunate to lead a fairly quiet, stress-free life, so for me it's more about the weather and the season, similar to Kestrel. I have been know to take 400 photos in one day!

In winter, I'll go out for clearing fog, sun after snowfall, hoar frost, etc. And this winter we've been fortunate to have dozens of eagles along a nearby river, so have made a lot of trips to see them (not such great photos as my max. is 250mm). And sometimes just by going out, you get really lucky. One day, looking for a break in the fog, I spied a coyote in a field and was able to get a couple of photos I really like.

Reading the other responses to your query is very interesting, so am hoping more will reply. I'm also hoping you won't think in terms of $$ investment so much as just being fortunate to enjoy a creative and fun hobby whenever the mood strikes you!
