Yay, me!!
I FINALLY made some nice enhancements to a photo using Picasa!!

(Still can't get it with GIMP 2.6, but HEY... this works for now!)

Woo-Hoo!

Now... three down... about 2500 to go!
I'm gonna have to put on some coffee...

I've felt that Picasa is the better choice of the free photo editing software available. Its a snap to become acquainted with and learn well enough to get some early benefits from it. I'd bet most of us would struggle for months with Photoshop before getting results like this. Tell me how viewing these would indicate to you that they weren't edited by using any versions of Photoshop?

That is SUCH a compliment!!

I can't!!

*laughs like a crazy-person*

GIMP was making me crazy and people kept talking about PS and I was really feeling really kinda crappy('cause unless they make it COMPLETELY free, I simply can't afford, even if I COULD figure it out! No wonder they give classes on it! )

I can't wait to "fix" the other couple thousand on my hard-drive... this is SO exciting!

Thank you for the encouragement!

No thanks req'd, but your welcome. I've taken some Photoshop Elements classes, invested in video courses, as well as some published materials etc. but my main use of PS Elements is their Organizer up to this point. I think a better use of my time is to become better acquainted with my equipment, make better use of its features, take some time taking a photograph, then reveiw what the LCD has to show me. If I'm not getting what I'd hoped, I'll take more until I do. All dependent on having a stationary &/or willing subject. A lot can be corrected then and there that will eliminate some of the post processing that I see discussed in these forums. I have to agree that there's a great deal of what we see in this forum that has been benefited in post processing but I wouldn't let the lack of those skills discourage anyone from making the best use of their time and talents with the materials that they can afford and have available to them. Above all, keep it fun!

You're absolutely right about that (imho), too!
I get tickled PINK with the ones that came straight from the camera the way I saw them (or pretty close to it!).

It's not just about the one-sided "end-product" for me... but the whole experience of being there, witnessing the moment and HOPEFULLY capture something close enough to the real thing, to share with others.

It's an emotional... passion.
A multi-dimensional experience. :)

(which is why I hesitate to do this for money, which I could really use, but don't want to lose my passion by doing so)

Can I share this?
(Then I'll zip-the-lip lol)

I was especially proud a moment ago, when I was going to "correct" a favorite photo, and when I hit "sharpen" and slid that little toggle to adjust... the photo didn't change for the better! Same with contrast, color, filter... you name it!

According to the Picassa program... I guess my pic was perfect just the way it was! *snickers*

All three shots are really well edited. I can't think of a single thing I would try and enhance. Well done!

Oh I HAVE, believe me! *giggles* ... for like at least the last three hours almost!

Lookie! :)

(I took a LOT of creative latitude with the last one! That's a rainbow over the apartments across from me, but my focus was supposed to be the raindrops with the BACKGROUND as the rainbow. When I played with it... the raindrops almost look 3-dimensional. Ohhh yessssssss.... THIS is FUN!)

P.S
Thank you for the encouragement :)

A reminder for what it's worth.
Picasa does NOT modify your original photo file.
Enhancements you perform on each photo will appear as you expect but only when viewed using Picasa.
You must EXPORT the enhanced photos in order for the modifications to become permanent.
Suggest exporting modified photos to a separate directory or rename as you go.

These points are not covered very well in the Picasa help files.
