What are you looking to do that the T2i won't do?

Why do you want to upgrade? What is your camera doing or not doing that you don't like. Take a look at gregoryd45 photos. He has the one right before yours. He has good glass. Many people on the forum move up in glass and are much more pleased with the same body. But if the camera doesn't fit your hands or if it doesn't 'feel' right. Then upgrade but you already have a fine camera. How much can you budget for either a new body or new glass?

I have a tamron 17-270, canon 50mm, 18-55 and 70-300
I am still learning. If a lens is 17-270 why would you need the others. Doesn't 17-250 cover all these and more. Does a prime take better pics. Is 17-250 good for portraits and outside. I have read for hours about photography but still don't quite get all the lens. I know I have much much more to learn. I appreciate all the advice I can get. Thanks, Peggy

I've asked many many if they could have only one lens what would it be. Most said 24-70. Why is that or is it just a matter of opinion ? I guess it like asking do you like Ford, Toyota or Chevy .

A prime lens is capable of taking a sharper image, not necessarily better. Better is up to the photographer. Other than maybe your 50, unless the 70-300 is a white "L" lens you don't have any premium glass. Superzooms like the 18-270 are a compromise, trying to do it all. "Jack of all trades, master of none" (kind of like me) Good glass makes a difference in contrast & sharpness...and build quality. Lenses are an investment that will far outlast the camera body.

What would you suggest I get as a all around lens ? My husband forgot our 36th anniversary so I'm gonna buy myself a present. Got a new great-grandbaby coming in May want some good ones of her.
Thanks, Peggy
I read that the 50mm is Not a portrait lens.

Uh, oh! This should cost him a lot!!!!
What do you like to shoot?
Someone shooting birds in flight would want a different lens than a landscape photographer or portrait photographer.

Well, you're still asking for a lot in one lens.
Old houses & barns might mean wide angle.
People (portraits?) ...something longer.
Flowers...macro or at least close focusing.

I'm a Nikon guy so I'll let the Canonites take care of you from here.

I would go for 24-70L or 70-200L (F2.8). Failing that, go for 24-105L (F4). Finish it off with a second hand 5D Classic.

goto your local camera store and put some in your hand and see how they feel. It's like choosing a wife put it in your hand to see how it feels.
