This is my best carving I have every done in my eyes. I did this one for Janny and gave it to her on our 30th wedding anniversary. You were lucky to see this one. She lets no one touch it.:):) Not even me. She put it down, I shot it and it was gone.:) This piece is out of Teak wood. And it took me 4 try's and about 80 hours to get one I liked.

For got to add, this is one piece of wood.

I am stunned!!!! AWESOME! Words won't describe what you can do, Erv.

I am familiar with the hardness of teak...probably the "right" grain for your piece. I am a bit puzzled...are the flower petals with the grain? That would make the bottom leaves against the grain....thats INCREDIBLE and a great accomplishment! It is a lovely piece but very, very difficult for one piece! Thank you for posting!

Lovely work Erv, you are a real talent. Would you thank Janny for letting us look at it. By the way did Janny decorate it?

Wow! That is incredibly life like. I can not even imagine how to go about carving something like that out of a single piece of wood. Congratulations on a wonderful piece of art.

Beautiful carving and photo! As a woodworker, I can understand the 80 hours in this thing, out of teak, no less. And as someone new to photography, I appreciate such a great photo.

Thank you Jo!! This was real close to not getting done. I just couldn't get it to come out of the wood for awhile. But the last try was what I was looking for.:) Slow working tho. You want to see some one sit on the edge of their chair at the end.:):) Every placement of the tool was hair raising.:):) And then I had to take it to a friend to have her paint it. I was a wreck the whole time she had it.:):)

Thanks Don. Yes they are with the grain. This is my third try. I tried the other way first. Didn't seem to work. And the second one had a slip of the hand.:(. Sanding it was really the hardest part. I might try another one for our 60th. :):)

I will tell her. :):) No this was a complete surprise for her. I did it all out in the shop and had stuff in front of the door so she couldn't just come in.:) And a friend painted it for me. Erv
