It's the kind of cockamamy question that an Australian who was not sure how to spell cockamamy would ask an American.
It seems to me that asking "What kinda cockamamie question is that? is more cockamamy than asking "How do you spell cockamamy?" especially when you go to the trouble of using ten letters to spell a word when it is acceptable to use nine when you come from a country that is famous for mispelling words for the sake of brevity...sometimes.
What is even more cockamamy is that my spell checker is now underlining cockamamy in red and wanting to correct it to cockamamie lol
quote=Festina Lente What kinda cockamamie questio... (

One solution: Try "pithy" instead.
I believe you are correct cockney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in the south too...and desperately avoid words like "cockamamy"...and "pithy" can get you killed down here.
This post is the final proof that if UHHer's are not taking pictures...or telling jokes...they have no life.
Ok, Ok...so I googled it too.

If your dictionary misspells a word, how would you ever know?
(Thanks, David Wright).

Is this a pithy question?
The question was 'How do YOU spell cockamamy' not what is the correct spelling for cockamamie. Either way as far as I;m concerned it's spelled Obama.
I've always thought it was "cockamany," with an "n" not an "m."
1. Cockamany (cock a ma nee ... with a long "a" )
Crazy, disordered, surprising, stupid idea.
You want to take my sister out to the club! What kind of cockamany idea is that?
I'm an "ie" guy for that word but have no idea why...

Like so many other words in English, there are two accepted spellings: cock·a·ma·my or cock·a·ma·mie -- are both correct.
