I bought this lens for my main carry around lens. Though im still looking for that 18-300. This 55-200 is of course new to me,is there any thing I need to know about any quirks it may have, if it has any at all. thanks . Kevin

I have a 55-200mm for my camera. It's great for wildlife shot's on my back deck (birds and squirrels from 10 to 15 feet away) through a glass door. Not too good for wide angle shot's. I would love to get a 18-300mm.

55-200 came with my nikon D3100 and its a nice lens, i just got a tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 VC PZD its light compact and lots less bulky as the 70-300mm i have , used the 18-270 on a excursion train ride 2 wks ago and got some very nice results

I am going to respond only to your comment of you looking for the 18-300 of Nikor. I had a 70-300 and frankly, it needed a strong arm to keep it focused in spite of the VR. I found a much lighter lens with the same specifications in the Tamron 18-270 and 70-300. Much cheaper too. I'll advise you read comments and specifications for the 18-300 of Nikor because it has its quirks.

I never had any trouble with the 55-200 lens, it's a good product. Currently I also use the Tamron 18-270 with PZD Drive. It was too complicated changing lenses in the middle of an event. The reviews I've read on the 18-300, stated that it is not all that good at the long end of the lens. Called it soft. Never had that issue at 200 with your lens. I hope you enjoy it.

Yes, I use the 18-300mm most times. It weighs close to half a kilo. I admit have used it quite a bit for parties etc. But by end of day, it does take a toll on the arms. The clarity is good.
