If you remember, I posted photos of ducks last week and the white duck produced lots of information for me. So.. I went back and here are some examples. The lighting was really good. Overcast with darker clouds so hopefully you will see some improvement. I think they're a little better although there is still some overexposure on the white duck.

Just for fun I had to add this one. I found it interesting despite the fact that it's chock full of technical no-nos.
And I'll go ahead and add this second one just because. LOL

I love ducks, here's some more

Toni'sVision: I really love the quirky one where the duck looks like its gargling! LOL Fun stuff :)
White ducks just naturally reflect a lot of light, I guess... although I do see the difference between the latter set and the set you first posted. In the first set, the white duck almost looks like he was pasted on another background, he/she's so sharp!
The first duck you posted is so detailed and crisp, almost doesn't look real!
Some folks have all the luck... AND talent... AND skill... AND... *wink
Nice color Rachel. Great shot! :)
tilde... you are very good at boosting my ego! LOL! Thank you very much! Actually I would've rather gotten more shots of the brown (wild) ducks but there just weren't as many opportunities. There were 3 white and 3 or 4 brown ducks that day and the white ones just seemed to be in a better position more often. The brown ones kept hanging out in the sticks where it was difficult to get a shot of them. The first shot of the white duck I posted because it did seem so sharp but I don't like the background. I guess that one would be a good candidate for lots of post processing. I know so little about photoshop though. Anyway.. thanks again for your input!
Here's an example of where the brown ducks were hanging out most of the time. Came out dark.. and I haven't altered this shot at all. It was just to show you what they were doing. Oh.. and the duck that looks like he's gargling.. that was when he had just brought his head up out of the water and then he shook his head. So I got him in mid shake. :) All the pictures I posted on this thread were taken on the same day. The pictures from last week that I was referring to is in a thread called "Suggestions" which is still getting a little attention since I posted some of these on it.
A pro photographer told to me shoot white items like birds, flowers etc at -1 and then adjust the lighting in lightroom or some other program.
I tried it with this flower and I think it came out pretty good. See what you think.

Wow, this head shot of the Mallard is really great. I like the fact that there is no background interference too. Wonderful image and I enjoyed seeing it.
I am new to Lightroom and am still trying to explore. You did a really nice job with your white flower.
thanks, I just got it last month and took a 6 hour course in it at a local camera store. I'm still learning the in's and out's of it also, but I love what it can do so far.
i still think i got great color with my duck photos being that i was out in the middle of the day with the sun right on them. there is an improvment on your pics, were not going to get anywhere unless we keep trying right! fair play to you for taking it all as constructive critisim and going out again to try :)
Thanks! Your pics look great.. there's no two ways about that. I'm just now learning how to make some really great improvements with photoshop. I just got home from work and now I'm headed back to my hard-drive to fix some more! :-)
