Hi, I was wondering if any of you out there has a Luna Pro CDS light meter? If so,what batteries do you now use in it?

I used to have one of these meters.
Too bad the batteries aren't made anymore.
I did find a (scary) site where someone recalibrated their meter to use a different voltage: http://www.graphic-fusion.com/lunapro.htm

They mentioned an adapter in the article- evidently available at B&H:

I found that site also where they tear down the meter. Not for me. Don't wish to take a chance on ruining mine. Thanks, Tim

Me neither! That's why I said scary.
I'd go with the adapter from B&H.

I have two of the Luna Pro meters you mention. I was also unable to get the original batteries but found batteries numbered Varta V 625 U. These place the calibration needle right at the top edge of the battery calibration bar. They have worked with that battery designation for many years now and I have had no problems with the meters or with their exposure values. I am just beginning to use them with a D-80 and a D-3200. There is essentially no difference with the EV offered by the cameras' measuring systems. Hope this helps you a bit.

Great info, John!

From Calumet's site:"The Varta V625U is a replacement for the no longer available 1.35 volt mercury button batteries. Made of Alkaline Manganese, the V625U is compatible with cameras and devices that accepted the original PX-625 battery."

This looks like the new version of the PX-13 your meter used to use. It's a silver-oxide battery. In a pinch we used to use PX-625 mercury batteries, only for short periods of time.

I use two of the Wein MRB625 in my Lunasix 3. Expensive but perfect. They are 1.35 volt silver oxide batteries specifically designed to replace the PX625. Don't use the other types (like the Duracell mentioned) that are 1.5 volts as they will give you an inaccurate exposure reading! You must remember to remove the plastic tabs and wait for 30 minutes for them to activate before inserting these silver oxide batteries.

I meant to say they are Zinc Air batteries not Silver Oxide! :-( Doh!

Doesn't the 1.5 volt batteries cause a problem with a correct readout? In other words, does it not make the meter read a stop off?The proper voltage is suppose to be 1.35volts per battery isn't it or am I not correct in my thinking on this?
