I like the 1st one if you could pull back some detail in the blown areas. Something about the coloring does it for me. They look just that much more appealing to me.

both are nice...i like the natural #2 the best.......but it does need a little polish. Can't tell you how to do it but it just needs a tad of pop. Photo 1 was nice but the lighting on the right was harsh.

I agree that on here it sure looks blown but when I look at it in photoshop it still has a lot of color and detail. Not sure why that is.

I think I like the shadows in the natural one better, but the color is more true in the other one. Definitely need to work on this some more.

I'm sure you will get it figured out. Maybe use natty light but adjust your subject to fit the light instead of trying to light the subject.....just a thought...i don't know crap.

personally, I think the second shot in daylight is the better of the two;
perhaps if you used a daylight reflector on the product, it would be better than flash. With product photography, you need to show the subject exactly how it appears to the end user.

I also like the top one. I agree with right side being to light so loose definition over there. Dirtpusher had some pretty good suggestions that I would go with. You could maintain a small, easier to control area then also. By adding those other props in they would also give some more definition to that right side and background.

You definately need backgrounds

I preferred the natural light without the shadow. Clean, (no pun intended), crisp, sharp lines

I prefer the top one as well although it is a bit hot. If the website is whits, it can look very nice to have the background match at the edges.

Otherwise, you've heard good input for creating a background. Cameron makes a really nice light box for small products that is quite inexpensive an portable. It comes with white, gray, blue and green backdrops. the latter are great for chromakeying and, of course, you can use a towel as suggested (great idea for soap.

I think a light blue background cast would probably highlite the product a bit better. Experiment with different background colours and let the sponsor decide?

Looking good, may I add my two penny worth? As others have said it could be all in the lighting and location, have you tried putting the soap in a room using natural light only, with a background of maybe a fluffy towel slightly underneath, you know the thing as one might see in magazines, just to add a little selling point. Good luck.

The top one looks a little over exposed...mostly on the right side. Bottom one is much much better with lighting. Some reason the white background seems to steel away the color just a little...almost like looking through a window...and I'm not sure what color would work better to really show more...pop...color I mean.

I agree with this. Put the natural photo through an edit to cool it up a tiny bit and it would be perfect!
