I recently found out that most DSLRs record each shutter click, so the total number can be accessed through the Exif file. When I buy a used camera, I now check the clicks first.

So, I'm wondering how many clicks you folks have on your cameras. I had a D90 with 4,756, a D70s with 44,872, and a D70 with 4,037. My new D7000 has under 200, and my "new" used D70s has 343. Yes, that's under 400 clicks for a D70s.

I read somewhere that 100,000 clicks is a good number to expect a camera to reach. My D70s has about 20,000. I've still got quite a way to go.

I haven't checked my Canon 40D in a little, last time I checked I had under 5,000, so I am willing to bet I am around the 7,000 mark right now.

Purchased it used, less than a year ago. It had a total of just over 800 clicks on it then. :)

Photoshop has a utility that lets you check number of clicks based upon the last photograph you uploaded.

I don't have a DSLR, but on my P500 I have close to 1000 on it now and got it a couple of months ago. I know it's not much but it is big for me because all I have ever had until now was small point and shoots. I have about 2500 on my little point and shoot and I have had it for 4 or 5 years now.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone on UHH. I have a Fuji S602Z and when I look at the Exif files of my pictures there is no click references. My question is, does anyone know if the S602Z records the camera clicks? or am I missing something when I look at the file?

I have a Canon 50D and I couldn't find it anywhere on the camera menu or in my Canon picture viewer software.

Millismote,

There are software programs that show the metadata for each file. Opanda is one of those.

Also, if your camera is set to show continuous file numbers, just look at the numbers on the last image you took. It will tell you which click create that file. I.E.

10036.jpeg. which would mean one thousand thirty shutter firings to get to that file.

I bought a used Nikon D80 about 6 months back in mint condition. Had less than 6900 clicks. I am up to just under 7900 clicks. Enjoy your camera and stop worrying about the clicks. Even if the shutter fails it is a $200 repair and this is way cheaper than a new camera if you really want to keep the camera. I hear DSLR have an average life expectancy of 75K ~ 100K clicks. Should be time for a new camera body by then!
