currently I am shooting the D3100, though I am happy with the camera it is time to step up. My question is whats next, i am looking at either the D5100 or the D90. i am leaning towards the D90 because from what I understand it has a full frame sensor. Any help or thoughts on this will be appreciated, and thanks .....

The D90 does not have a full frame sensor. The D600 is the lowest cost Nikon that is full frame. You might be able to find a D700(discontinued) which is also full frame.

i know the D90 is old but was considering it due to the ff sensor, but I guess that is out now...lol. Is there a D5200, im looking at the Nikon site ond it shows only a D5100. ok so now its a toss up between the D5100 or the D7000. I will be looking into both cameras more in depth, I just wanted a good starting point to jump into the sea of info...hahahah thanks again

If you can afford the D7000 go for that; the D5100 (D5200 has just been announced) is not that much of a step up from the D3100.

Nic42 is right. 7000 much better camera than the 5100 or 5200. Would bet that if you got the 5200 you would want the 7000 soon after.

You can get a really good D700 ff for around 1400.00 with low activations. The biggest problem with that is you will need to replace all your lenses. Although you could shoot DX lenses on a D700, you will only be using 47% of the sensor area and with the 700 being a 12.3 mpx. camera, that means you will be producing less than a 6 mpx. file. This might be ok with you -- I've seen some really beautiful 16x20 shots made with a D70 which is only 6.1 mpx.

Yes, the D7000 is the way to go. You can get a good one refurbished, or get a used one on eBay. I've bought cameras both ways - and new, too.
