I don't know how old your Canon is, but it may not be recognized in PS CS4. If you are using a registered copy of Photoshop, log in to the Adobe site and download all available updates and that should solve the problem of opening RAW files. Ver. 7 may not have support for RAW, but I'm not sure about that.
you may want to check your preferences list- make sure your editing program is set up correctly- you can also have jpg's open in the raw editing program- save in tif and you have triples your photo data!
