If you meet me in ANC (early) <the day of the ceremonial start>
I can introduce you several mushers I know personally and you can walk the streets with me instead of being confined to the sidewalks.
***And that is a rush being around 60+ mushers and teams.

At the re-start:
***If we somehow can pic a place to meet or after Jodi Bailey has her number, you can find her by number
I can <probably get you in> I handle for her BUT at that point she prefers Dan and Jay to do the work, so I amble around with my little armband and shoot pictures.

Or many times other teams need help with a neck line or extension so I jump in and just do it....

I have a specific hat I wear. I will post a pic and explain it...

And at this point, I have bid on Jodi's sled to ride in so it would be cool, if I hook u up to ride with Dan Kaduce (her husband) and handler Jay to the end of the ride then we go back to ANC so that would be fun and YOU can get pics of me at the end!!!

Give a thought!

Salsa, eight pages later, must have lots to work on.
Looks like you may possibly even have a shooting partner.
First big question is: did you ever find that MENTOR ?
Second big question is: do the dogs feet ever get cold??

Salsa I haven't heard from you yet. Please let me know one way or the other if you want my mentorship.

Can't be a mentor as I am in almost the same state you are (so don't feel alone). I just got a Nikon5000 which I am struggling to master. There MAY be a "bible" for you. I got one of the "for dummies" books for my specific camera model. There may be one for yours. I am finding mine easy to understand -- sure beats the camera manual. I think you would find it a big help. Good luck! Mac's mom.

If you can find one for your camera, I have always found the Magic Lantern Genie Guides to consistently be the best books available; you can start at:

I second the suggestion above: The book Annie Girl is referring to is Understanding Exposure by Brian Peterson.
Read it, then read it again. It will give you a real handle on most of what you will want to do in Alaska. BYW Alaska is one of my favorite places in the world. Have a ball!

I ENVY YOUR TRIP. Was in alaska last year and toured the largest dog trainer and winner of the ideron several years ago, but my trip was in the summer season.
I will comment on a couple of things and leave the rest to the others on this site. First, you're night shots will be great with the lens with f1.4 which is a real good low light lens....the shortness of that one will be a hinderance but really workable up close. Second for the day shots with your 300 on bright days and snow, get you a good polorizer for that lens to cut down on the glare you will get from show....in the meantime practice shooting in bright sun light and in aperature priorty use the highter aperature setting. Hope you have a great trip and we all would like to seem some of the pics from such a trip...wow i would give my right thumb to make that trip. Attached photos are of the winner (can't remember his name and the winning lead dog.

The first thing you should do is go to the menu and set the color from sRGB
to adobe RGB 1998, ( a bigger color Gamut ). Many cameras default to sRGB. That said! next buy a kodac 18% gray card to use to set a white balance, put the camera into manual mode, In the same light you intend to take pictures set a custom white balance. You will find the instructions on how to due this in the manuel that came with your camera, very
important. If you do nothing else due this,

[ok I set the camera to Srgb. I am lost on what to do with the rest of your recommendations...can you try and explain?
