When I agreed to host a couple of days this month, just to see how it would go, I knew that I would have to chose topics that were very accessible. I work full time and am raising 2 of my 11 grandchildren. I don't always have the opportunity to go out to find the shots I would like to.
As I began to think about the topic of Around the House I walked around looking for objects that I thought I might want to include. It was then I began to think about the stories behind some of the items I decided to include today. Many of us have things that bring a memory to our minds, or things that have some sort of sentimental value. Let those things that have special memories or stories come to life for us and tell us their story.
This pitcher and glasses set was displayed in my grandmother's china cabinet when I was growing up. I had always admired them. They are now lovingly displayed in my cabinet.
After the death of my grandmother, I used my inheritance to take a trip to England. It was there I began to collect teapots and teacups.
In 1985 my husband and I built a new home. As he was demolishing the old farmhouse he spotted this bowl that had been hidden under the floor of the old dining room. Even though he had run over the area with a bull dozer, the bowl remained intact without a crack or chip.
When we first moved to this property in 1978 there were several old buildings and a couple of old barns which only one is still standing. They were full of old jugs and bottles. I still have these. They sit on top of the kitchen cabinets along with the old bowl.
Also sitting on top of the cabinets in an antique coffee pot that my granfather would take with him and use on hunting trips.
This was also my grandfather's,
My late father-in-law made several pieces of furniture that occupy my home. This is a corner cabinet he surprised me with. I now keep my collection of fairy tale dolls in it.
Over the last few years I have taken up sewing again. I made the kids clothes when they were little. Now I make baby blankets, quilts, bags, and curtains. These are the first curtains I made.
Finally, just to show that not everything in my home is old or handmade, this is the chair that matches the new living room suite that my husband bought me for Christmas.
Hey y'all. Sorry for disappearing again like I did... and Nan sorry for not answering your email.. I've been dealing with some personal crisis... not worth mentioning. Thank the lord for 2013. I can't tell you how proud I am of y'all for keeping this going. I do have a few pics I'd like to post .. I just thought they were beautiful. Those of you that know me will be happy to learn I'm going out daily with the camera these days. It seems to be really good therapy.
Of course they have nothing to do with the actual challenge unless you consider the desert landscape *around the house* lol. I hope to be here a lot more now, y'all better learn to tolerate me again hahahahha. I love you all.
