So its not as delicate as some seem to speculate? Im in a photo group on Facebook and the founder of the group has a tutorial on how to clean the sensor and some other dust particles that may be in your camera and on other important parts and he also shows that he is cleaning it with a silk microfiber cloth and just a mist(on the cloth). He says it works just fine.
Then again i have read that people have done that and put scratches and even drove the particles deeper into the focusing screen. Im sure that you must use very slight pressure while doing this process and NOT mash on it due to its sensitivity.

Hey Doc ..... you can clean them, I've done it, just be gentile .....

..... if ya scratched it there'd be no difference in your pictures anyway, it'd just be visible to you through the viewfinder like the dust that's bothering you now.....

.....new screens run approx $20.00 anyway

..... you can send it to me doc, I fix things .....

I had the same problemo with the same camera. Called Nikon and after a long discussion, was told where I could get it fixed in NYC which would alleviate shipping the camera. The tech at the authorized repair shop said he would have to open up the whole viewfinder area to clean it. Told me it has no effect on my pics so don't have it cleaned out till the camera has a real problem.

Yep, me too. I don't know where he comes up with all of his animations or stills for that matter. A creative mind and great sense of humor as well!

I have used Nikon digital cameras now for quite some time now. My Canon friends don't seem to have the problems us Nikon people face for some reason. I have tried a few items to clean the focusing screen. I have tried the Speck Grabber, but the surface was too small. Using a Rocket Blower seems like it would exascerbate the problem by blowing particles around. I recently purchased an item called the "Arctic Butterfly 724" and it seems to work great. It removes the particles, it doesn't relocate them within the camera body. I am sure there are a lot of other products out there on the market and some a lot cheaper but this is what I found to work best for me. Here is a link so you can check them out. I don't endorse the company, it's just for info.

I shoot Canon and was able to get 5 focus screens for about $10 I assume that they only sell them in lot quantities because they probably sell more to repair shops than to the public. At anyrate the screen was very simple to replace, you can find instruction online.

My point is is that it is not expensive to repair with the original part and you can do it yourself, cleaning focus screens is not recommended.

Hey Doc ..... how's ya chains doc .....

..... fixed a 28-70 focus problem and removed a stuck filter on a lens mounted on a D7000 ..... can you believe this, they tried to blame me for breaking it, but that's just hearsay, my story is it was already cracked ..... it's hard to find good customers that aren't complainers .....
