I have never seen one, but while out taking pics of hawks and eagles today I saw this white, possibly albino peacock walking beside a back country road. There were a couple ranch houses in the vicinity so I am sure it belongs to one of them. But it was sure strange for me to see it. Sorry the sun is on the wrong side, but when I got out for a better shot it took off into the brush.

Leucistic animals have black eyes, Albinos have red or pink eyes.
Leucistic are very much more rare than albino animals,'In the wild albino and leucistic animals have a very short life span for obvious reasons

Great grab!

Thats why I wanted to get on the sunny side of it, so I could tell the eye color. I may head back out that wat tomorrow to see if I can find it again, I would kind of like to know myself.

Nice!!! We have had Peacocks in the past and after a while they just start walking away and keep on going. 2 of ours walked one day and 3 weeks later he walked into a yard 4 miles away and stayed a while, then walked again. We knew the people where he went the first time. Didn't know the second ones. He walked from there after about 6 weeks and never was seen around here again. Strange critters.

My brother-in law used to raised Peafowl and had white ones but they were not Albinos.

Your First picture is pretty clear even though the light was from the opposite side and the eyes appear to be dark and also the top of the bill appears darker in color. It also appears to have darker feathers above and below the eyes.

Leucism /ˈljuːsɪzəm/[1] *"is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation in animals caused by a recessive allele. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in all types of skin pigment, not just melanin."*

* "White peafowl are not albinos as most think. They do not have pink eyes, they are blue. The white peafowl are both completely white. The eyes in the males tails are slightly visible."*

Thanks for sharing your awesome photos, :) and teaching us a new thing. Love to learn! Hope you see this again and share more photos. :) Happy New Year. Maybe this is a sign....for the new year....that it is going to be a happy one. :)

Very cool...I have never seen a white one. Some neighbors had several normally-colored in their huge yard, and I loved to hear them squawking or whatever the correct word is.Stranger than the Loons.Hope you see it again so we can see more. Thank you for this most unusual post!
