One thing that's simple enough to do is to set the camera to run the photo count continuously, rather than reset it every time you format the memory card. It might not be a 100% accurate count, but it will give you an idea. It will reset when it gets to 999, or 9999.

a 7D shutter box replacement is £150 not much so why worry

Please share how your post contributes to the solution of Dean Mars' "Where and How" questions?

Where and how do I find how many photos taken? Thanks

Hi There, I save my photos back to Picassa. When viewing the phots in Picassa in properties on the right hand side it gives you all of the info you need, (from camera make to the lens you had on the camera at time of photo) right at the bottom it gives the shutter count number. I use Nikon so I do not know if it works for all brands. Hope this helps. Terry.

Out of curiosity, I just checked on Picasa, images taken with my Canon Powershot & there was no shutter count field, so Picasa won't show you that info with images taken with a Canon...At least not point & shoot model models...Not with my Fuji Point & Shoot either...

One place I know of is called "EOS Info". It gives me the shutter count for my 1000D but doesn't see my 500D. It may work it may not. At least you can check the site:

I have spent much of today trying all the programs suggested to no avail. The last program I tried was called Magic Lantern which gets very hairy by altering the RAM in the 7D. I tried it got scared ,removed the battery and reformatted the CF card. Back to normality. Has anyone one had any joy in reolving this question?

As I wrote earlier I use ISOInfo for one Canon camera that I have. It says on their web site that it doesn't work for all Canon.

I have always stayed away from ML because of the warning right on their web site - "your camera may not operate after this install".

Hey Junior 1, do you think anyone really cares that you have never looked, bothered nor cared? Quit clogging up the forum with unhelpful inane comments---like I am doing now.
Oh, and the way, Junior, if I were buying a used 7D I would like to know how many clicks the shutter has had. That figure could be indicative of general wear and tear on other components of the camera.

It still does not recognize the Canon 7D!

Canon doesn't put the shutter count in the EXIF.
