Wow, now that’s a car. Not something you see in the Walmart parking lot every day.
It would be interesting to go to Beeville Texas and catch these type of cars running there.
I live in Texas and didn’t know about it until you mentioned it.
I love your car posts.
Bruce

Thanks, Bruce, for the visit and for the compliment. You can probably google the Texas Mile facility and get a schedule of such testing to be done. I lived in Austin during the early '70s...love Texas.

I watched a video a few years back on how its 288 mph predecessor was put together. Some of the things I recall are - the pistons being delivered in padded cases with gloved hands; the rear air foil engaging at 130 mph; it had for radiators to handle the heat generated by the 1000 hp engine; the special Michelin tires were $16k a set and only good for around 5000 miles; purchasers were fitted for the seat; - I’m glad I didn’t order one because I’d have a hard time getting fuel under the new energy policy.

Thanks for the visit. I really appreciate the info that you shared with us. This current model puts out a whole lot more horse power. I'm glad you mentioned the tire situation, particularly the cost factor...I'm sure that's a stunning number for most folks to learn.

I'm not sure I like the design a lot. That front-end "nose" isn't very attractive. The rest of it is good.

There have been some comments about the impracticality of a machine like these. A guy in our neighborhood bought a Lamborghini Huracon. Beautiful car but, first, you should have seen the contortions he had to through to get in and out of it. Second, these cars were made for high speeds. Our roads are not made for high speeds. He found one straight, level area nearby where the pavement is decent and he was able to crank it up to 150 mph for a short distance. Otherwise, he was using it to occasionally go pick up a gallon of milk. And he was always worried about getting it dinged since he paid around $300,000 plus for it. He got rid of it.

It was interesting reading of your comments. They closely paralleled my own experience when I bought a Ferrari 308 GTB in the latter '70's.

Pretty to look at and I'll bet it sounds terrific. But where the heck are you ever going to find a place to open her up and let her breathe without accumulating a lot of speeding tickets? It must be frustrating to own one. Yeah, right.

I'm sure that most buyers of these cars have no expectation of exploring the top-end performance they offer. The ego-boost they enjoy is of much higher importance.

Thanks for the visit and for commenting.

Hi, Kathy.

I'm sure the tactile experience derived from this car borders on the other-worldly. And that's something you're far more likely to enjoy than any of it performance potential.

Sorry,Tom, take a dubious looking design, add a bit of a hideous shade of blue to accent portions of this car and it is still ugly in my opinion. Just my untrained eye and opinion on this uber expensive conversation piece!

"When you're running at these crazy speeds" where? I don't know of any place in the U.S. where I can run more than 85 (legally).

Beside the fact that speed is an addiction, you can drive this car at any speed you can handle, at any motorsport track.
