I lived south of 436 off Hattaway Drive for 27 years from 1979. A job took me there.

I NEVER took the boat out on a holiday weekend!
Been to Silver Glenn Springs many times, by boat!
Put in at Sanford and Deland.
I really liked having the Resident's Pass for Disney! I do miss that.
But I finally got tired of sweating 10 months out of the year.
Moved back to PA after the kids got <quasi> stable.

What a coincidence. I grew up in Drexel Hill PA and lived on Genevieve Drive off Hattaway. I never did well in Florida's relentless heat. I used to camp in my boat at the Glen to beat the heat. Also went to Wekiva Marina often, rented a canoe and paddled to the spring head for a swim. Also camped in our RV at Rock Springs. Back in the early 70s I took my boat up Blue Springs to the spring head. Those were the good old days.

We feel the same way here! Now the beaches are turned into condos (the plates you see in june) and farm land turned into housing developments inland. Where are these people going to get water? Waste management? Where will thier feces go? I've seen 10000 acre lots off I-75 with 3 almost complete ruin while there are no grocery stores and most roads are two lanes for farm equipment for anything from strawberries and beans to cattle. Most annoying to me is the sell off of small motels across entire towns already suffering from traffic wanting to expand and build more with out explanation of water and sewage at the very least. Traffic in Florida now is ridiculous and it dosnt matter what kind of roads they build, the clueless still make life miserable. Any time a friend is moving back north ,I ask if they could get a few more to go with them and see if each of those friends could get thier friends to move back North where everyone and everything is better.hate watching all the beach town being destroyed by greed and market, but it has also moved predator animals into housing developments. Damn sorry for the rant. Lol

I totally agree.... Lived in Pinellas county from 1960 till 2008. Worked and retired from Pinellas county utilities. Even decades ago salt water intrusion was a big concern... Certain wells off Keystone road in well fields were being shut down even back then. On another note sinkholes are a big problem with the voids created... How do I know, my ex son in law is a sinkhole attorney. Managing gray water during off growing seasons was a nightmare with golf course ponds containing and holding excess. My daughter says traffic is almost unbearable in north county now. As you stated though, Folks want to migrate to where the living is better, but overcrowding etc... always sneaks up on you. If everyone hates DeSantis and his policies WHY are they flocking to FL ? STAY up in NY or out in California. No one will miss you. I myself have a little cabin on 2 acres up on a mountain... traffic has not increased in 16 years on my little road... NO property taxes, Great neighbors and a relaxed lifestyle. Just like cameras, we all make some compromises.

In my 50 year marriage, and while I worked for the federal government for 22 years, we moved around to nine different addresses in six different states. There were pros and cons about each and every state, town and address. Our three sons each had a number of varied opinions regarding those moves, also. We all survived, and ended up in different states with our families. When necessary look for the positives and do what you can to change the negatives to acceptable points or maybe positives. Plus, we had the opportunity to travel through several areas of our country and see areas we may have never visited.

Please excuse my rant....but I'm really getting fed up with some people (okay...more than some) can't seem to contribute anything helpful. Maybe that's why I like coming to the UHH. For the most part everyone is as helpful as they can and when it warrants or in Chit Chat..funny.

While we were in the moving process and after we moved to Florida I was in some groups about moving to Florida. I put up with the negativity then because I was looking for information. Now that we've moved I'm there to help those looking to move to Florida. Unfortunately, there are a number of nabobs of negativity who have to complain about how bad they have it in Florida, be it traffic, the heat, bugs, or whatever. Then telling people not to move to Florida for whatever reason they have.

I've already left a few of them because of this....but it still frustrates me. Yeah...I know I'm old and this is what the inter webs has become.

Please resume your normal programming.

Speaking of which. WHY would you move to Florida when you could move to the great state of TEXAS????

You know I'm pulling your leg, friend!!

Perhaps they have a valid reason, such as West Texans do. We don't want more people - not because we're unfriendly or clannish (OK, we might be a little clannish) but because we do not have the one resource that is crucial for all life - water.

Congestion is necessary for life, or water is necessary for congestion?

Interesting concept.
The town I lived in starting in 1979 had 1/10th the congestion than when I left in 2006.
We did fantastic without the added congestion.
Our lives were better without the congestion.
So I can't see where congestion is necessary for life.

Water is necessary for the populace.
Populace causes congestion.
Two different, but related, scenarios.

Yup! Moved to Texas from Illinois 12 years ago and I always have the draught and yet when it rains it flooded.

I was asking what you were saying, not pushing congestion, which I abhor.
