You can buy a book of Burma Shave Sign Sayings on Amazon
"Verse by the Side of the Road: The Story of the Burma-Shave Signs and Jingles"
By Frank Rowsome
Why buy a book? In a previous post I listed a website that has the various "sayings" listed as they came out by year. You don't need to find my post, just Google Burma Shave signs and you can find it for yourself.

The book also includes some anecdotes from the pair of sign installers. Besides being a list of the signs it is also an interesting story.

When the Burma Shave signs were on the other side of the road, my older brother and I would remember alternate signs and the work out the correct rhyme! Luckily speed limits were lower in those days.
Thanks for bringing those memories....

You're right. I remember when going 55 was fast on the highways.
Grew up in Ct.; never saw them. In the late 60's I traveled some very rural back roads of California. There they were.
I recall family drive vacations thru the southwest and looking forward to the Burma Shave signs, e.g. "He lit a match", "To Check Gas Tanks", "That's Why They Call Him", "Skinless Frank" Classic Americana!
Now think of the fun my brother and I had as we read them in reverse order and then had the fun assembling the humor!

Who remembers BURMA SHAVE (GREAT reminder of the past)?
I'm sure that Burma Shave actually saved some lives. People laughed and then were more careful! It was a REAL "service" to America, even though it was an advertisement and it was one of the RARE "really useful" ones!
