Just curious. Since we have quite a few members from Florida, has anyone seen any of these birds? I read in the paper that they have been sighted around the Merritt Island area as well as Pasco County. The annual bird count is next weekend and they expect to include this bird in their count. I have yet to see one.

Maybe they're waiting for their introduction next week?

Larry we had two Razorbills on the Merit Island Bird Count on Decemeber 19th, don't know if they are still being seen. I looked for them up by Ormond on Christmas day and didn't see any, the ones at Merit where out past the surf sitting in the swells and quite visible even without a spotting scope, black obove, white below and pointed tail. Good luck.

Wife and I went to Wall Springs Park this afternoon with hope of a picture or two. No luck. Got home and read in the paper of sightings a few miles North of us. We are just South of Tarpon Springs.

Oh, well, I'll keep trying. Thanks for your comment.

I have a photographer friend in Florida and he has been able to get a few pics of the razorbills over the last few weeks. Per his account you will need a very long lens as they seem to stay quit a distance off shore. He has spent many hours over many days to capture just a few. I wish I could share some of his photo's but he doesn't visit this forum so I'm not able to share his photo's. Razorbills this far south seems to be a 1st happening. Hope that some of our UHH forum members in the area are able to get a few shots. I'd never heard of or seen a razorback until this rare occasion. TNmike

We have lots of Razorbills across the 'bigwater', they often associate with Guillemots, relatively easy to get close to, especially at breeding time, they have black heads and black eyes, so difficult to get a decent pic. terns are the same. Not being really helpful am I?

Best regards, s

This is what we in UK know as a Razorbill; is this the same bird?

rogerl, that looks pretty close to the pictures I've seen from my friend. The only difference is little more white on the throat and cheek area under the eye. The rest of the markings and size looks the same. TNmike

I just did a little reading on razorbills. One statement said "Throat white in nonbreeding plumage, with some white on face." Looks like they are the same on both sides of the pond just that the photo's were taken at different times of the year. TNmike
