Only for coastal communities.

Yup,
One town on the coast actually had to move the city well further inland.

How long in terms of years or generations does one have to live in Florida, Oregon or elsewhere to have "earned" or "obtained" the moral authority to tell others that they aren't welcomed?

When I lived there, we used to migrate to Franklin, NC to cool off.

Please excuse my rant....but I'm really getting fed up with some people (okay...more than some) can't seem to contribute anything helpful. Maybe that's why I like coming to the UHH. For the most part everyone is as helpful as they can and when it warrants or in Chit Chat..funny.

While we were in the moving process and after we moved to Florida I was in some groups about moving to Florida. I put up with the negativity then because I was looking for information. Now that we've moved I'm there to help those looking to move to Florida. Unfortunately, there are a number of nabobs of negativity who have to complain about how bad they have it in Florida, be it traffic, the heat, bugs, or whatever. Then telling people not to move to Florida for whatever reason they have.

I've already left a few of them because of this....but it still frustrates me. Yeah...I know I'm old and this is what the inter webs has become.

Please resume your normal programming.

Aside from the hurricanes, tropical storms, humidity, sink holes, alligators, water moccasins and annoying bug population, I enjoyed the best beaches in the world, great fishing, beautiful sunsets, mild winters and plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit year round. It's not the sleepy laidback state it was when I grew up there, but there are plenty of rural small towns that are just lovely to live in. Snow Birds have known that for the better part of a century.

When one has been assimilated to the area.
It varies.

When you move here you will find that the south east coast has crowded roads all year long, and the south west coast has roads that are most crowded in March. Traffic is getting worse each year as more of us boomers move down here.
The average home insurance is over $10,000, and for many, flood insurance is a must, and is increasing every year. (I hope that the elevation of your home will put you in an X zone rather than AE or AH zone which will cost even more). Car insurance is higher in Florida than any other state. Plan on buying a water filter (I use zero water myself), because the water tastes terrible (to me at least). All ponds in the state potentially have gators in them. Mosquitoes are a real problem (for me, they ignore my wife), and there is a potential for some of them (aedes aegyptii) to carry serious diseases (Dengue fever, Yellow fever, malaria), and some evidence that that is happening, if not, it’s probably only a matter of time until with warming climate, these diseases return to Florida.
The weather is great from late October until early April. You cannot play outside in the summer heat without taking a serious beating. Real feel temps are over 100 most of the time, and over 110 too often.

I love it when some people say negative things about people who say negative things.

Well, sometimes the second people are warranted in their comment about the first people.
In either case, it's both people's opinions.

First point. I found very few posts that are helpful (there are some but few) however, most are interesting to read. So I am here to read them and contribute some more not so helpful posts.
Second point. Your nabobs already in FL and they don't want too many people there that would make everything more expensive for them.

Put them on your “ignore” list. Problem solved!

That won't prevent one from seeing their posts on other people's threads.

Sorry. Right. But it does block their posts. Helps a tad

I only "ignore" nasty people.
For me, simply disagreeing with their opinion doesn't warrant me ignoring them.
They are, after all, entitled to their opinion.

Yup. We always took our summer vacation up North!

In the 1970s-'90s, I had a wealthy aunt who had lived in Chicago suburbs most of her life. She had a condo in Jupiter, FL, which she occupied mid-October through mid-April, and a condo in Hinsdale, Il, where she lived the rest of the year. But she couldn't resist flying back and forth all the time to see friends in both places.

At the Carolina beaches, we can always tell who the Canadian tourists are. They're swimming in the ocean without wet suits at Spring break in early April.

Wealthy Floridians have lots of summer homes in Western NC. Real estate prices have sky-rocketed there since the 1970s.
