Nearly twisted my neck getting this shot...
Only about 20 meters away and going like a cut cat...

Wonderful shot, Ron!

Stunning photo! Thank you for sharing. It encourages me to keep trying to capture similar bird in flight images. Would you share the specifics of the exposure, focus mode, camera, and lens settings? They would help me get a feel for the conditions supportive of such a shot and add to what I've learned from Steve Perry at Backcountry Gallery.

Here you go...
Took this shot some yeas ago now and my faithful D7100 is long gone, sold it a few years ago.

Nikon D7100
1/500 sec
F5.6
ISO 320
Nikon AF-S 70-300 F4.5-5.6 ED VR Zoom lens @ 300mm (450mm = 35mm equivalent)
Spot focus

I didn't need an overly fast shutter speed as I was panning with the bird.
Cheers,
Ron.

Thank you. This information makes the shot even more impressive. Yet another example of the skill of the photographer being as important as the technical capabilities of the equipment.

Thank you, can't scan like that anymore, had massive shoulder surgery last August and still can't lift my arm...
