April 22nd is designated "Earth Day" but many communities have celebrations and activities scheduled throughout the week. This challenge includes human impact on the earth, any activities your community might have (clean ups etc), climate consciousness, and efforts to be kind to our climate. Include weather impact if you can. Can't think of anything? Show us the terrain in your neighborhood - rocks, dirt and mud are totally acceptable in this challenge.

Anyone is welcome to participate - use "reply" to write your reply and attach your image. Want to comment? Please use "Quote Reply" under the post tht caught your eye.

So, what does Earth Week look like where you are?

Back when I was a kid (!!!), there used to be a public dump about 8 miles away for the use of everyone in the area. As a kid, it was loaded with treasures, and it was always the coolest thing to stop there - and dump

They definitely tell lots about life and habits.

Thanks for hosting, Pat. As usual, I've enjoyed everyone's posts. Has been a nice variety of thoughtful and inspirational photos.
It's a cool day today and I'm taking a little rest from trying to get the needed yard work done (needed a diversion).
Our neighborhood has changed a great deal in the last 10 years or so. We used to be protected and could only see a couple older houses out our front window and across the street. Now...☹☹ We still have lots of trees separating our backyard from out neighbors and can't see their house.

Since these changes have occurred over the years, our mini environment has really changed. Our plants and flowers need different care. Most of all, we notice the heat and WIND!! Before the last home construction, I could spend time out on an nice, sunny, April day (mid 50's) in a short sleeved t-shirt. No way now! And, I often have trouble taking pictures of flowers/plants in the yard because of the wind.

What a story that says a lot about how humans change an environment and how it impacts the animals! Driving my usual routes this past week I saw 4 fields stripped, development lot signs posted and more solar installations that had been hidden behind trees. Fields were stripped of the rich top soil and carted away (same with trees). I'm betting trees will later be bought from a nursery and the area re-plamted and owners will pay for dumploads of loam for their lawns!

p.6 These are wonderful, Larry. I love how you think out of the box, and then make a "box" to put them in!

p.6 Great contributions. The portrait (#2) is outstanding. Partial to the color peeking from the pavement, and, of course, love the truck being overtaken by nature.

Mud, dirt and sand have long been attractions for humans - especially little humans. It's fun to watch them enjoy the oozy mud, splash - and then hose them down! Adults have their own grown up mud fun. Up here they are called Mud Runs. (I don't have any pix of a mud run)
