Thanks so much for the memories. I remember them from the 50s in our family travels.

In the 50’s, driving from outside Cincinnati to grandma’s up in rural NE Ohio we passed a lot of the Burma Shave signs along with barns painted “Mail Pouch Tobacco” and “See Rock City.” It was sure a different world then.

[quote=DIRTY HARRY]Who remembers BURMA SHAVE (GREAT reminder of the past)?

I'm sure that Burma Shave actually saved some lives. People laughed and then were more careful! It was a REAL "service" to America, even though it was an advertisement and it was one of the RARE "really useful" ones!

I miss seeing those signs. They were all around in my youth.

A man, a miss,
A car a curve.
He kissed the miss,
And missed the curve. Burma Shave

Loved those signs. And there were others.

This isn't quite the same but I recall seeing in Nevada these Stuckeys shacks in the
middle of nowhere advertising pecan log rolls. I always wondered how far their employees
had to travel to get there.

Barn advertising was another victim of Lady Bird's beatification bill. How unfortunate. Now, as I drive through the winding interstate in Kentucky, they get around the bill by building hugh billboards the proscribed distance away from the road.

Where do you get it? I used it in tubes years ago, and have looked for it recently but haven’t been able to find any. I got the impression from somewhere that they’ve been out of business for a while.

Burma Shave went out of business in 1966!
I guess some folks still have a 58-year-old tube of it?

My wife, Elaine, still does that when she doesn't like the route our GPS picks!
I call her "my EPS" (Elaine Positioning Sustem).

I agree with Elaine. For me GPS is only useful for finding an address once I'm in my destination city or town. Even then I've been led on some wild goose chases.
