Write protected message in LR

I have a brand new SanDisc CF Express card, formatted in my Fuji XH2. It will write to Windows, but not LR. It will show the images in LR, but when I click to import them, I get the write protected message. Same problem with the SD card which I have previously used with no problem. RAW on the CF Express, jpeg on the SD card. When I have a problem like this, it is usually user error. Any suggestions what I might have done and how to correct it. Thanks in advance.

Might be a little lock switch on the cards that was locked by accident orwrite protected in camera. If the later, you will need to go into your camera & turn the lock off.

Check the file attributes of the images that LR says are write-protected. You do this within Windows File Explorer. Right-click the file, and select Properties from the resulting menu. On the General tab, are the attributes = Read Only?

Curious, why would LR not be able to read/import them?
They might be write protected, not read protected.
(I don't use LR.)

I've 'protected' images in the camera to avoid unintended delete, and I believe they arrive on the computer disk as protected (locked). I'm pretty sure, for whatever reason, LR then will not import these files. Possibly, LR won't import read-only images as LR could be asked to delete these from disk later, and a locked file would cause that latter function to fail?

Really, only Adobe can explain and our OP might want to open a Technical Support chat with Adobe if the file properties idea leads no where.

Thanks, that sounds very reasonable.
Having them (image files) read only would also prevent an accidental "over-write" of the original when saving edits.... Forces a "re-name" for the edited version.

If you'd shy away from LR related questions, you wouldn't reference one of the basics of a non-destructive editor ....

I may have to download and install LR. I have the subscription but I only use PS and didn't even install LR.

(I always "save as"..... so I have no worries if an editor is "destructive" or not.)

Thank you all for your suggestions. I just finished with Adobe on line. Apparently the destination file got changed to one that didn't exist. It took them less than 5 minutes to diagnose and fix the problem. They made my day!!

Hooray! Then you can start your own "Why doesn't Lightroom work? Why did LIghtroom lose all my flies?" topic!

UHH really needs a Lightroom Problems Only forum...
